Terms of use

These Terms form the agreement between you and Zac Cameron-Webb trading as Nova, a sole trader established in the United Kingdom. Please read them before creating an account or subscribing to Nova Plus. For questions or support, email support@studynova.me.

Service use and eligibility

Nova is currently available to people aged 18 or over who are studying at a UK university in the United Kingdom. You must provide accurate account information, keep your sign-in methods secure and contact Nova promptly if you suspect unauthorised access. You are responsible for activity through your account unless it results from Nova’s failure to use reasonable care.

The service

Nova is a study workspace for organising modules, lectures, authorised sources, outlines, notes, highlights, study sessions, practice and evidence. Where available, you can share a module with your class, add friends and study together on lectures you each hold. A verified new account receives one 14-day Nova Plus trial without a payment card, subject to the allowances presented when the trial is offered. Trial allowances do not refresh.

Nova Plus, renewal and cancellation

• Monthly Nova Plus costs £8 per month in GBP and renews automatically each month until cancelled.
• Four-month Nova Plus costs £30 every four months in GBP and renews automatically every four months until cancelled.
• Both options provide the same entitlements. The £2 four-month saving is the launch plan discount. Referral credits are described below.
• Stripe hosts checkout, collects payment details, issues billing records and provides the billing portal. Nova Plus starts only after Stripe confirms the subscription.
• You can cancel automatic renewal at any time through Billing in Settings. Nova Plus then continues until the end of the period you have already paid for.

Prices are stated in GBP. Stripe shows the total due and renewal schedule before you subscribe.

Referral reward

• When someone opens your shared module invite link, creates a new Nova account, verifies their email and uploads their own identical file to unlock a ready lecture in that module, you and they each receive a referral reward. An upload that first prepares the lecture qualifies when it is ready.
• During your trial, the reward extends its end date by 7 days without increasing the trial allowances. If you have an active GBP Stripe subscription that will renew, the reward is a £2 credit on your next bill. Otherwise it grants 7 days of Nova Plus, added after any Plus access you already have, without starting a paid subscription.
• An existing account does not qualify as a new referral, and an account can be referred only once. You can earn at most 5 rewards per academic year, from 1 August to 31 July; the invitee still receives theirs after you reach that limit.
• Rewards have no cash value and cannot be transferred or exchanged. Do not use fake or duplicate accounts, self-referral or other misuse to claim rewards. Nova may change or end the programme with reasonable notice; rewards already earned will be honoured.

Cooling-off, refunds and billing problems

Nothing in these Terms limits your statutory cancellation or refund rights. If you want to cancel during a cooling-off period, were charged incorrectly, cannot cancel or believe the service was not supplied with reasonable care and skill, email support@studynova.me. Nova will provide any refund or other remedy required by applicable consumer law. If you ask Nova Plus to start immediately, the law may permit a deduction for the service supplied before cancellation.

What happens when access ends

When the trial expires or paid Nova Plus ends, new AI preparation pauses. Your existing academic work remains readable, including sources, outlines, notes, highlights, saved explanations, prepared study material, evidence and academic history. You can continue to organise your workspace and edit your own work. Reactivating Nova Plus restores paid features without rebuilding that work.

Joining shared modules, class notes and confirmations, the feed, catch-up prompts, resources and friends stay free. Unlocking a class lecture after the trial needs Nova Plus even when its study material is reused. Study activities use the usual allowances; you can answer a received challenge without Plus if every question can be marked automatically without an AI call.

Authorised uploads and intellectual property

You may add a file or text only as an authorised source: material you created, have permission or a licence to use, or may lawfully use for private study. Do not upload pirated textbooks, unlawfully obtained assessments, confidential material you are not permitted to share, or content that infringes copyright or another person’s rights.

When you choose tutor material that you can use with AI, you confirm it comes from a course you are taking and was made available to you by your university or lecturer. When you choose a published past paper, you confirm your university published it for students.

You retain ownership of your uploads, notes and answers. You give Nova limited permission to host, copy, extract and process them to provide, secure and support your account and the features you request. Other students upload their own files; Nova does not provide your uploaded file or extracted source document to them.

Study material for identical files. For tutor material and published past papers allowed with AI, you also permit Nova to keep and reuse the skills, outlines, questions and other study material generated from the file for another student who uploads an identical copy themselves. This includes the class's version of a lecture in a shared module. Identical means the same upload or a page-identical copy, not an annotated copy, handout or changed export. This permission does not include reusing your private notes, answers, evidence or material not allowed with AI. Retention is described in the Privacy policy; students who already received study material keep their own copies.

Nova owns its software, branding and service design. You may use AI-generated material for permitted study, subject to rights in the underlying source and applicable law.

Shared modules

• An invite link makes a module shared when another student accepts. The class is for one academic year, from 1 August to 31 July. Next year's class starts separately; the previous year's module stays readable until its members leave or archive their copies.
• Members share module facts, lecture titles, weeks, dates, exams and assessments. A lecture's skills, outline, questions and other lecture content open only after you upload an identical file yourself. Content based on several files requires you to hold all of them. An invite carries facts, not files or study material. Share it only with people taking that module.
• Your own files, notes, highlights, flashcards, answers, evidence and sessions stay private unless you deliberately share something or take part in a study activity that shows its results to others.
• Members can contribute and change shared details. Risky changes, including exam or assessment dates, removing or merging a lecture and replacing its file, need another member's confirmation unless made by an organiser or in a class with one member. Changes appear in the feed; undo is limited and is unavailable after conflicting later changes or for a removed lecture.
• Organisers can remove class content or members and promote organisers. Use these tools fairly and for the class's benefit. The first upload that needs preparation is charged pages; later identical unlocks do not use pages.
• You can leave at any time. Your held lectures and progress stay in your individual copy; untouched lectures you never unlocked go. Lectures you contributed stay with the class while another member holds the file. The class closes when its last member leaves.

Your contributions

Contributions include class notes, deliberately shared private notes, pins and tutor answers, student explanations, questions and model answers you write, links and their descriptions, exam facts, module details, confirmations and votes. They also include notes, highlights and cards you choose to share with friends.

You keep ownership of what you write. You give Nova non-exclusive, royalty-free permission to host, store, copy, format and display your contributions to the people you shared them with, and to adapt them for those features, such as attaching a note to a passage or converting an accepted question into practice material. Lecture content is shown only to people who hold its required files. Nova may use visible class notes as labelled study context and to adjust emphasis; the lecture remains the authority on what is correct. Nova may review, hide or remove contributions under these Terms.

You can edit or delete your class notes and shared explanations while a member. When you leave, they stay as written by a former member unless you choose “Remove my notes”. Deleting your account deletes those contributions and your authored question submission. Resources, module changes and accepted class practice questions can stay without your name. Your personal copy and other members' own academic work are separate.

If you offer a card you wrote to friends, you also permit them to copy it into their own deck for their study. Stopping the share, removing the friendship or deleting your account ends the live share, but does not remove cards already copied into someone else's deck. Those copies no longer show your credit after your account is deleted. Nova does not sell your contributions.

Share short notes in your own words, not a lecture transcript or someone else's work beyond a short quotation you may lawfully use. Do not share anything you are not allowed to share.

Friends and studying together

You can connect through a friend link or QR code, an exact @handle or a classmate suggestion. A friend request needs acceptance; following a friend's invitation link can accept the connection. There is no public directory, contact import or direct messaging. Your sharing switches control modules, activity, progress, strengths and studying now, as described in the Privacy policy. Sharing studying now allows eligible friends to join your live study room. Accepting a shared goal or taking part in an activity lets its participants see the activity's counts or results. You can remove a friend or block someone.

Rules for classmates and friends

Do not harass, threaten, abuse or impersonate anyone, post hateful, sexual or violent content, disclose another person's private details, use activity to track or control them, advertise cheating services, post spam or misleading names, or evade moderation and limits. Do not share files, recordings, images or transcripts through social features. Resources are links only: no file-sharing hosts, piracy or study-sharing sites, shorteners or unsafe links. Do not share coursework or live-assessment answers or use these features for collusion.

Reports, blocking and moderation

Use Report where it is offered on a person or shared item. You can also email support@studynova.me about any content, including a module or lecture title, with enough detail to identify it. Reports are not shown to other students. Blocking hides the other person's social content and ends your friendship; it does not remove either of you from a shared module or change anonymous class figures.

A report can hide an item from its reporter at once. Three distinct reports on supported shared content hide it for everyone while Nova checks it. Nova can remove content, reset a profile, remove a member or restrict an account where appropriate. Link checks and AI review of submitted class questions or corrections are described in the Privacy policy. Nova reviews reports as soon as it reasonably can; fixed response times are not promised.

To complain about a report, online safety or a decision about your content or account, email support@studynova.me with “Online safety” in the subject. Nova will consider the complaint and any new information and tell you the outcome. A reversed decision restores content or access where possible. If you believe content infringes your rights, identify the material and your rights in an email to support. Nova will investigate and remove or restrict material where justified, including reusable or class content derived from it. Members' own copies of previously prepared academic work may remain.

Academic integrity and authorship

Nova supports learning; it is not a service for writing assessed work for submission. You are responsible for following your university’s academic-integrity rules, disclosing AI assistance where required, checking citations and submitting only work you are permitted to present as your own. Do not use Nova to obtain or distribute live examination content, impersonate another student, evade assessment controls or present AI-generated work as independently authored. Shared modules, challenges, group mocks and other study activities are for revision, not unauthorised collaboration on assessed work.

AI limitations

AI output may be incomplete or incorrect. It may misunderstand a source, omit context, produce an inaccurate explanation or provide unreliable feedback. Check important claims against the original teaching material and use your own judgement. Nova does not guarantee a grade, mastery, admission outcome or fitness for a particular assessment. Generated material is not professional, medical, legal or financial advice.

Prohibited use

Do not use Nova to break the law; harm, threaten or exploit another person; upload malware; test or bypass security without permission; access another account; scrape or overload the service; reverse engineer protected parts except where the law permits; evade usage limits; resell account access; or generate or distribute unlawful, abusive or infringing material.

Availability and service changes

Nova will provide the service with reasonable care and skill but may pause features for maintenance, security, provider failure or legal reasons. Features, providers and allowances may change as the service develops. Where practicable, Nova will give reasonable advance notice of a material adverse change. A change will not remove a statutory remedy. If a paid change materially reduces the service during a prepaid period, contact support about cancellation and any remedy available under law.

Suspension and termination

Nova may remove content or a class membership, restrict or suspend an account where reasonably necessary to address a material breach, security risk, unlawful use, non-payment or harm to the service or another person. Nova will explain the reason and provide a fair opportunity to resolve it or appeal through support unless doing so would create risk or breach the law. You can stop using Nova, cancel renewal and delete your account at any time. Account deletion is permanent after confirmation, so export any data you want to keep first.

Liability and consumer rights

Nova does not exclude liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or breach of your statutory consumer rights. Otherwise, Nova is not responsible for loss that was not reasonably foreseeable when the agreement began or for loss caused by circumstances outside reasonable control. These Terms do not affect mandatory rights you have under applicable UK consumer law.

Privacy, cookies and support

The Privacy policy explains how Nova processes personal data. The Cookie policy explains essential storage and optional analytics. When signed in, you can export data, manage temporary support access or delete your account in Privacy & Data.

Changes to these Terms

Nova may update these Terms for legal, security or service reasons. Material changes will be explained before they take effect and, where required, you will be able to cancel rather than accept them. The date above identifies the current version.

Applicable law

These Terms are governed by the law of the part of the United Kingdom where you ordinarily live. You may bring a consumer claim in the courts available to you under applicable UK law. Nothing here removes a mandatory local consumer protection.
